The New Forest which was once the private hunting ground of William the Conqueror is an outstanding ecological and historical landscape that has brought worldwide fame upon itself. The pastures, heaths, bogs, streams and ancient coppices and timber plantations look magnificent even today. Grazing rights were given to the local “commoners” for their ponies, cattle and pigs as long as they did not interfere with the royal deer and their food and these rights are guarded to this day. Lepe Country Park situated in the coastal area of New Forest is a place where you can see picturesque views from the Solent to the Isle of White. They also have a collection of reptiles and other crawlies if you want to be creeped out for fun and excitement. The New Forest Wildlife Park has a butterfly house, exotic wildlife, wallabies, wolf enclosure and many other species of wild animals. You can also visit the Marwell Zoological Park, home to over 250 exotic and endangered species in an area of 140 acres. The Longdown Activity Farm, where you get to bottle feed goat kids and calves, cuddle and pet rabbits, guinea pigs, baby rabbits and make friends with donkeys, woolly alpacas, ducks and chickens, is a funland for all kids. They even have a play area for kids and you can buy fresh farm products and local food from its shop.
One of the only working tide mills in the world, the 900 year old Eling Tide Mill produces flour daily in the same old tradition. Located on the edge of Southampton Water beside the New Forest, it is an experience you must not miss. There are many places to see and many activities to do in New Forest.
