repair your golden ring

This do-it-yourself method to fix the ring is mostly used by a collector. Mostly are found form metal detecting activity. The rings that they found are usually dirty and broken. Thus, they need to fix it before selling the items.
There are several things that you need to prepare. You need to have cheap torch (acetylene). If you want to get better torch, you may need propane torch. For the beginners acetylene torch is enough.
Channel locks or Vise grips is used as the ring’s holder. You can check this stuff on you garage. Scissors is used to cut a solder sheet and sand paper.
It would be better if you can provide magnifying glass to look at the ring’s damage. A toothpick is functioned to hold a small piece of the solder sheets.
The most important thing is the solder. Make sure your rings will no be melted on the solder that is hwy you need to have lower level solder than your ring. For instance, if your ring is 18k you need to have a solder in 12k.
You need to brush the ring with sand paper and insert the pieces of the solder sheet between the two broken ends. Use vise grips to close the gap on the ring, then look at the gaps using magnifying glass. The last step is soldering the ring. You can solder it from the inside to cover the joint. Do not get the ring too close with the solder it will make it melted. You need to solder it carefully, it will b better if you could do the soldering in dark area. In dark area you can see the color of the metal. When it turns to red, it is time to get the solder away. This method is easy and helpful. The joint can be used for years.
