Chelsea’s Greatest Players – Frank Lampard
Frank James Lampard was born in June 1978 and joined the West Ham United youth team in 1994. By 1997 he was playing in the West Ham first team and was scoring goals in all competitions from midfield.
In 2001 he moved to Chelsea for £11 million. He soon established himself in the Chelsea midfield and earned a reputation as a valuable goal scorer for the squad.
Chelsea won the Premier League titles in both the 2004/5 and 2005/6 campaigns and achieved the domestic cup double in 2007 under manager Jose Morhino. Lampard was a pivitol part of the proceedings, alongside other home grown players such as Joe Cole and John Terry. He scored in the 2008 Champions League Final against Manchester Utd in Moscow although Chelsea went on to lose the game on penalties.
Chelsea reached the final of the FA Cup in 2009 and Lampard scored the winning goal against Everton. He has been voted Chelsea Player of the Year on three occasions and has scored more goals from midfield than any other Chelsea player. Lampard was quoted as saying he ‘wanted to stay at the club forever’ when asked about a possible future transfer.
Alongside Didier Drogba, Michael Ballack, Michael Essien and Petr Cech, Frank Lampard has contributed to Chelsea becoming one of the most successful teams in Europe. Each season they compete at the highest level. Lampard is vice captain at the club and a firm favourite with the fans. He has also enjoys a first team role in the England squad and will be a major force in the World Cup in South Africa 2010. Frank Lampard – A Chelsea Legend.
