Twins could cause confusion to others
Twins are born occasionally. And twins of different sexes still very rarely.Two boys or two girls looking exactly alike, could cause confusion for others in several ways. Why has God allowed this?
It’s wrong to say that twins are exactly alike. Not at all. There would be dozens of differences in their body feature or in their life styles or birth marks and mostly in their voice. Parents know how to distinguish one from the other and so do people who move around with them constantly. It is the strangers and casuals who get confused by their looks.
It would be a night mare experience for teachers if a pair of twins happen to be studying in the same section. They could exchange names especially when punishment is to be received. Sometime, the twins themselves could play tricks in the class with their classmates and others.
For instance when I was undergoing the officer training in theIndianMilitaryAcademy,Dehra dun, there were a pair of twins in our course. While we, their close friends knew who was Chandrasekhar and who Chandrasuden, the teaching staff would invariably make mistakes in identifying them. In one PT class, the PT instructor commented, “Sir, you just left in the previous group and why have you come again?” We had to tell the Staff that this person was his twin brother. The instructor shook his head in despair.
From their side, the twin cadets made full use of their similarities and fooled others. Normally those who are under punishment were required to attend a roll call at10p.m.every night. Chandrasudanrepresented Chandrasekar on quite a few days and none knew about it.
Something similar happened with Mona and Padmini, who were undergraduate first year female students in the Arts group. Mona had fallen in love with Rangrajan and they had been meeting in the college canteen during lunch breaks. One day, Padmini pre-empted Mona since Mona was a little late that afternoon. Mona was shocked to see her sister cooing away to glory with Rangarajan. She didn’t take her sister to task, but gave Rangarajan two code words (Question and answer) to pick out the right girl. Poor Padmini returned to class a dejected twin every afternoon much to the delight of her twin sister.
There is a town named Khodini in Kerala which is famous for producing twins over the past 60 – 70 years. Out of some 350 pairs, 250 are absolutely identical twins. Outsiders cannot differentiate one from the other.
Here is case of a pair of twin boys, named Raj and Sam. Raj broke one of the window panes in the house while playing with a tennis ball.The father took Raj to task. “No Dad, I am Sam. Raj is over there,” Raj pleaded. The father knew exactly who was Raj and who Sam. So, he punished the real Raj instantly. Raj never pretended to be Sam thereafter. Twins shouldn’t hide their real identity with their parents or siblings or close
friends. They would be caught !
God is not going to change His plan of sending twins into the world. Statistics show that every eighth child born in the world would be an unusual kind. They could be handicapped in some way or eunuch or twins.
That’s God’s formula. And therefore we have to accept twins in our midst and become experts in telling them apart.
