Reebok 9K Goalie Hockey Stick Review
The Reebok 9K Goalie Hockey Stick almost completely mimics the 11K Stick, only lesser materials are used to cut the cost down. The 9K is still incredibly lightweight and contains many high performance features only offered from Reebok.
Carbon in the form of Reebok’s Matrix Guard technology weave is present throughout the entire design of the stick, layered under a thin coating of fiberglass. These materials are also used on the 11k Goalie Stick, but at a higher grade. The 9K Stick contains Griptonite gripping around the control zone, or shoulder (where the paddle meets the shaft). This small add-on does wonders as far as additional grip and improved stick and puck control. If the goaltender would prefer not to have the rubber grip, they can simply tape over it for a more traditional feel. The shaft has a rounded feel to it for easy maneuvering when in hand. Also seen in Reebok’s regular stick line, they are using Guided Blade technology. The blade includes raised dimples (looking similar to a basketball outer shell) running through the puck’s trajectory path if it were shot from the stick. Accuracy, puck response, and feel are all improved with the Guided Blade technology. Both the paddle and blade are inserted with a low density grade foam. This type of foam reduces overall weight and is perfect for vibration dampening and avoiding bad deflections.
The Reebok 9K Goalie Hockey Stick contains two flaws in its design. First, like it’s superior (the 11K), the 9K has been know to break. Lightweight comes at a cost. Second, the 9K has a completely different responsive feel to it (when compared to the 11K); the energy transfer from hand to stick isn’t as fluid.
The 9K Goalie Stick is still incredibly lightweight. With the Matrix Guard weave, the Guided Blade technology, and the Griptonite shoulder area, the 9K is in a league of it’s own compared to other goalie sticks in its class.
Everyone has a preference for the right goalie stick. Whether you are a lefty or a righty there is a stick out there for you!
