Tournament of Roses – Culture Through the Ages
A tradition of over 100 years, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses welcomes the New Year warmly by celebrating it in grand style. Initiated on January 1st in 1980 in California, this revered event is a family affair; the Pasadena family together ensures it to be a standing success. Nearly a thousand members of the Tournament of Roses Association aid this precession, which includes the Rose Parade and ends in the Rose Bowl Game.
The Tournament of Roses is a fusion of flowers, music and sports, enveloped with the community to create a mutual feeling of love for one’s culture. Greeting the New Year with arms wide open, the Rose Parade moves down the streets of Pasadena, greeting the day and year with waving folk and smiling faces as the community flocks to the see the pageant. On New Years itself, the Rose Parade is proceeded by the Rose Bowl Game, played by two championship teams gearing up the crowds and feeding on the adrenaline of the new year celebrations.
Preceding the main events, which includes the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl Game, the Tournament of Roses, offers the community a chance to peek at the impeding attractions. Over the space of couple of days prior to the New Year as well after, an array of mini-events are available to those who wish to be part of this century old tradition. These events which start December 28th and ends on January 2nd, includes the Equestfest, Bandfest, Float Decorating, Roses on Parade and Rose Bowl Game Kick-off Luncheon & Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony presented prior to the main events and following the Rose Parade, the Post Parade: Showcase of Float is available to those who are enamoured by these beautifully decorated masterpieces.
Another event that coincides with the Tournament of Roses is the selection of the Grand Marshal Rose Queen and Royal Court, and will be presented to the community on their own Royal Court Float. As the Royal Court and Queen wave to her gentlefolk, the parade will move forward to the impending other celebrations of merriment and mirth.
