World Cup spirit spread by word of mouth

Summer 2010 presents a wealth of opportunities for people that wear braces on their teeth to express themselves, muses respected orthodontist Dr Bryan Altshuller. Why not celebrate your love of the beautiful game by honouring the World Cup finals in South Africa by sporting braces in the color of your favourite team.  This must surely be a more popular option than blasting out the monotonous Bb tone of the dreaded Vuvuzela made so popular in this year’s World cup.

Depending on your personality, nationality or allegiance you could opt for white braces in support of New Zealand, alternating pale blue and white for Argentina, orange for Holland, black and white for Germany or go bold with yellow and red for Spain. Whatever you choose your new look sure to be a talking point in the office, school or at your next social event. A no doubt less controversial talking point than the subject of why FIFA discussed and rejected 4 months prior to the finals the proposal to introduce technology to judge if the soccer ball crossed the goal line instead of relying on the all too often fallible assistant and centre referees. The same issue raised its head in the 1966 World cup with a controversial goal by Geoff Hurst, but I digress.

We decided to ask our resident expert, Dr Bryan Altshuller, an experienced orthodontist from our nation’s capital, to gauge the popularity of this kind of practice. Dr Bryan Altshuller confirmed that it is particularly popular among teenagers to change their brace color every month. The variety of colors available has led to some particularly innovative examples, particularly around Halloween. “Since this practice often results in a positive impact on self esteem we encourage our patients to be creative” commented Dr Bryan Altshuller.

So, why not express yourself this summer, World cup colors or otherwise, ask your orthodontist for details.
